Multiplication equations: one step equation

Multiplication equations one step equation means finding the value of an unknown variable by eliminating extra constants by multiplication.

To solve an algebraic equation, the goal is to always isolate the variable – this means to get the variable all by itself on one side of the equation. This can usually be accomplished by performing inverse operations that result in an equivalent equation that has the same solution as the original equation.

Multiplication one step equation

Consider an equation,

x/5 = 2

Our goal is always to find the value of an unknown variable x. To find the value we need to isolate the variable x.

(x / 5) x 5 = 2 x 5

however, to do that we need to check what all operations and constants or variables are associated with x.

Here to isolate x we need to get rid of divide by 5. Observe that the constant 5 has been divided into the variable to get rid of this. You can isolate the variable by multiplying by 5.

This means we have performed the inverse operation on the constant 5 by multiplying 5 to both sides of the equation (which is the opposite or inverse of division). Thus, as a result of doing the opposite operation (or inverse operation), we have

x = 10

Using Division

Consider an equation,

5x = 2

Similar to using multiplication, Our goal is always to find the value of an unknown variable x. To find the value we need to isolate the variable x.

5x /5 = 2 / 5

however, to do that we need to check what all operations and constants or variables are associated with x.

Here to isolate x we need to remove and multiply by 5. Observe that the constant 5 has been divided into the variable on both sides to get rid of this. You can isolate the variable by dividing by 5.

This means we have performed the inverse operation on the constant 5 by dividing 5 to both sides of the equation (which is the opposite or inverse of multiplication). Thus, as a result of doing the opposite operation (or inverse operation), we have

x = 0.4
